Project Overview
Location | Brooklyn, NY |
Duration | 14 Months (ongoing) |
Contract Value | $500k - $2M |
GWTT Role | Dewatering Subcontractor |
Project Description
A 1200 LF Wellpoint Dewatering System was installed in suspended segments to consider a staged excavation and remediation across the project site (a 14-floor commercial office building). The project required excavation to depths of 30’ from surface within a 24’ static water table. The system operates as two systems that are lowered twice independently as the project continues within the 200’ x 400’ full city block site.
A 300 CFM GWTT Vac Station is being utilized in conjunction with twin GWTT Vac-fed 700 GPM Pump Cans, which enable the deep drawdown of groundwater within the varying soils. The proprietary GWTT equipment was able to perform effectively in multiple configurations without suffering losses during the transitions.
Additionally, the project required GWTT to provide on-site treatment of the groundwater prior to discharge from the brownfield site. The flexibility of the dewatering system, along with the on-site groundwater treatment, allowed for successful excavation and civil work to occur on time and within budget.
The system, which was designed to be lowered from an initial upper elevation to a lower final grade, was ultimately split into two independent systems to allow for an SOE redesign including a split site excavation plan. The 200’ x 400’ site was excavated over 30’ from street level within 24’ of groundwater. The split system allowed work at two different elevations across one live site.

We Can Help Solve Your Dewatering Challenges
Dewatering is a core competency within GWTT’s total water management solutions portfolio. We design, build, troubleshoot, upgrade, install, and operate dewatering equipment and treatment systems for civil projects and environmental applications. These systems include but are not limited to: drilled vertical and battered wellpoints, jetted wellpoints, gravity- and vacuum-assisted deep wells, design sump and groundwater control excavation plans, groundwater depression and management, dewatering for contaminants remediation, coal ash pond / CCR decanting, ejector systems, and temporary and permanent artesian pressure relief systems, among others.
