Filtration Media Services

Whether it is granular activated carbon (GAC), ion exchange resin, zeolite, organo-clay, filter sand, or another specialty media, GWTT can remove the spent media, handle characterization and disposal, and replace with fresh media. GWTT’s filtration media services are performed on site by field technicians that are well trained, have hands-on experience, and are OSHA HAZWOPER certified.

GWTT also offers predictive media modeling to allow our clients to better understand and budget for comprehensive media lifecycle management.

Additionally, we offer tank cleanout services, as well as equipment rentals and operations & maintenance services.

Granular Activated Carbon and Alternative Media

Granular Activated Carbon (GAC)

Types of Carbon

  • Regenerated Carbon: This carbon is recycled and treated to restore its adsorption capacity. It’s a cost-effective and environmentally friendly option, reducing waste and the need for new carbon production.
  • Virgin Carbon: Newly produced carbon that has not been previously used. It offers high initial adsorption capacity and is often chosen for applications requiring maximum efficiency from the start.

Applications

  • Liquid Phase: GAC is used in water treatment systems to remove organic contaminants, chlorine, and other impurities. It’s effective in treating drinking water, wastewater, and industrial process water.
  • Vapor Phase: In air treatment systems, GAC captures volatile organic compounds (VOCs), odors, and other airborne pollutants. It’s commonly used in air purification systems and industrial emissions control.

Alternative Media

  • Specialty Media and Resins: These are tailored for specific contaminants that are difficult to remove with GAC alone. Examples include heavy metals, PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), and other complex compounds.

Predictive Modeling / Treatability Services

GWTT’s comprehensive service package is designed to support clients throughout the entire treatment process, from selecting the right media to managing its usage and replacement. This holistic approach ensures effective contaminant removal, cost efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

Predictive Modeling

  • Usage Models: These models predict the lifespan of the media, helping clients plan for maintenance and replacement schedules. This proactive approach minimizes downtime and ensures continuous treatment efficiency.
  • Financial Planning: By understanding the usage patterns and longevity of the media, clients can better plan for the financial impacts of treatment, including budgeting for media replacement and operational costs.
  • Longevity Prediction: The modeling also predicts how long the media will last under specific conditions, helping clients understand the long-term performance and costs associated with their treatment systems.

Treatability Services

  • Process Definition: GWTT works closely with clients to define the treatment process, ensuring the selected media will effectively remove the contaminants. This involves detailed analysis and testing to optimize the treatment system.

Media Exchange Services

  • Manpower and Equipment: GWTT provides skilled personnel and specialized equipment to perform media exchanges in vessels ranging from 1K to 20K pounds. This ensures safe and efficient media replacement.
  • Equipment Inspection and Repair: Our experienced field technicians will inspect all vessels and make any necessary repairs, prior to re-bedding of the units.
  • Regeneration: Spent media can be regenerated to restore its adsorption capacity, reducing waste and costs. Regeneration involves cleaning and reactivating the media for reuse.
  • Disposal: If the media is hazardous, GWTT can handle its disposal, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. This includes proper handling, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials.
