Project Overview
Location | Staten Island, NY |
Duration | 3 Months |
Contract Value | $1M - $5M |
GWTT Role | Design, Build, Operate, Maintain |
Project Description
GWTT was contracted to design, build, operate, and maintain a deep groundwater recovery system at a closed landfill in Staten Island, NY. The system was designed to recover VOC’s migrating from landfill leachate into the down gradient groundwater.
Sixteen recovery wells were installed with bottom loading pneumatic pumps. Individual discharge lines, secondary containment HDPE piping, piped and trenched to the treatment system. The well vaults were 5-ft precast concrete vaults installed with a Bilco door over each recovery well. The entire length of trenching for this project is 3020 ft.
GWTT installed a treatment system to collect and treat the recovered water. The treatment system was prefabricated in a 40 ft. container box with heat, lights, and ventilation. All treatment components within the container were installed with secondary containment. The treatment system includes a 550-gallon double wall tank, custom air delivery manifold , water recovery manifold, bag filtration, duplex transfer pumps, submersible pump, 10-HP air compressor, and two 1000-lb liquid phase carbon units.
The treatment system was designed and programmed to operate in batch production utilizing PLC and was outfitted with leak detection, pressure transmitters, pH transmitter, flow transmitter, and multiple level sensors. The system is controlled by a custom master control panel with a PLC, cellular telemetry, and VFDs for the transfer pumps. The system discharge is first diverted to a 30,000-gallon holding tank to verify treatment prior to being discharged to the sanitary system. GWTT also coordinated and installed the power drop for the project.
