PROJECT CHALLENGES
- GWTT’s system design had to incorporate existing/legacy chemical feed piping
- The relatively high flow rate and stringent discharge limits required additional in-house testing and critical design considerations
Project Narrative
GWTT was contracted to design, procure, build, install, commission, and operate and maintain a site-specific Wastewater Treatment System (WWTS) to facilitate the treatment and discharging of compliant water from a large coal ash basin located in North Carolina.
The system was designed to treat a maximum flow rate of 1400 GPM. The main contaminants of concern include Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Arsenic, Selenium, Cadmium and Thallium. Due to the relatively high flow rate, GWTT designed a single large tank for pH adjustment and the coagulation, flocculation, clarification, and sedimentation process. All other treatment equipment was modular and constructed and tested in our Wharton, NJ, manufacturing center thereby reducing field labor and associated field expenses.
GWTT also incorporated all existing chemical feed equipment and piping into our design.
