PROJECT CHALLENGES

  • The largest obstacle that GWTT encountered during this project was the uncovering of two existing lines that were not accurately located on the existing as-built drawing.
  • Additional excavation work resolved the issue, although both schedule and budget were impacted. GWTT added additional personnel during the rerouting of the aboveground piping to recover the lost time.

Project Narrative

GWTT was contracted to procure and modify a deep groundwater recovery system piping, pumps, and electrical at a Pharma site
in North Haven Connecticut.

The piping to the equalization tanks was installed elevated above ground with heat trace insulation and jacketing. Two new
pumps were installed with heat enclosures including piping valves and instrumentation. Additionally, a heated shed enclosure
was provided and installed for the auto sampler.
The electrical service was upgraded, and the old feed lines were pulled from the underground conduits. The switch gear and auto
transfer switches were relocated and placed on newly poured concrete pads. Conduit and power were routed to these components
and then terminated at the distribution panel.

This project required continuous communication and coordination with the design engineer and the on-site O&M Contractor.

The system remained operational throughout the project with scheduled minor power outages. The largest obstacle that
GWTT encountered during this project was the uncovering of two existing lines that were not accurately located on the existing
as-built drawing. Additional excavation work resolved the issue, although both schedule and budget were impacted. GWTT
added additional personnel during the rerouting of the above ground piping to recover the lost time.
