PROJECT CHALLENGES

  • Highly accelerated project schedule which required GWTT and its partners to maintain a high level of communication and coordination.
  • Terrain: Site conditions included large boulders, mud and unexpected site debris, during trenching. GWTT was required to work creatively with the LSP to utilize available on-site materials to complete the excavation tasks and maintain the targeted installation date schedule.

Project Narrative

GWTT was contracted to custom fabricate, install, and activate a High Vacuum Total Fluids Extraction (HVTFE) system for the treatment of PFAS impacted groundwater at a contaminated site in Massachusetts.

New piping was installed to attach to existing extraction wells and then plumbed to a carbon-based groundwater treatment system housed in a customized 40 ft. shipping container box with heat, lights, and ventilation. The system was optimized to simultaneously treat vapor and water on-site while providing a system that will require a minimal amount of O&M to operate. System components included custom fabricated manifolds, a knock-out tank, bag filters, blower unit, liquid and vapor carbon vessels, and all actuated valves and automation with telemetry for remote monitoring.
