Project Narrative
GWTT was contracted to design, construct, and operate a 1,500 GPM wastewater treatment system to
remediate oil-contaminated groundwater during the repair of a broken pipeline and the construction
of its replacement in Baltimore, MD. The system consisted of settling tanks, oil skimmers, bag filtration, transfer pumps and controls, interconnecting piping and hose, a generator, and a flow meter with totalizer.
Moreover, it utilized low profile air strippers and vapor/liquid phase activated carbon absorbers for removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), organo clay media for removal of dissolved hydrocarbons, and mechanical filtration for removal of total suspended solids (TSS).
GWTT operated the system 24/7 and also provided the services of mobilization and demobilization, winterization, and HDPE piping and fusion. Due to the safety and environmental challenges associated with oil spill remediation projects, O&M technicians employed site specific PPE for petroleum and distillates in addition to sensitively working around the local ecology.
